Now, in a two-part miniseries titled Lindy Chamberlain: The True Story, a critical look reveals the investigation into Azaria Chamberlain’s death, detailing what led to the prosecution, conviction, Lindy’s jail sentence for murder and possible exoneration
Narrated by Sam Neill – who played Michael Chamberlain in the 1988 film The Affair, and was also named executive producer of the new miniseries – he reveals new details about the family’s experience after Azaria’s disappearance, including exclusive interviews, personal videos and letters
An initial investigation in Alice Springs confirmed Lindy and Michael Chamberlain’s claim that a dingo entered the tent and took baby Azaria away Further investigation and 1981 investigation then took place in Darwin
Ms Chamberlain was charged with killing her child and jailed for life in a murder trial in 1982, while Mr Chamberlain was convicted as an accomplice
