Ballot for Rugby Union World Cup tickets open to fans – marking one year before tournament starts

Fans can now apply for tickets to all four matches at Newcastle, including the opener as hosts England face Samoa at St James’ Park

The city will be the training base for the Scottish men’s team with Kingston Park Stadium – home of the Newcastle Falcons and Newcastle Thunder – which will also host three Group B matches

These are Scotland v Italy (October 24), Fiji v Italy (October 30) and Fiji v Scotland (November 6)

A total of 61 matches will take place in the north of England – not just the men’s tournament, but also the World Cup tournament for women rugby league players and those in wheelchairs

The public ballot – the first in Rugby Union World Cup history – opened at 9 a.m. on Friday, with fans having until November 16 to apply

To mark one year before the start of the much-anticipated tournament, the monuments of Newcastle and Gateshead have been illuminated in a stunning purple appearance

The Baltic, the banquet hall of the & Civic Center, the Tyne Bridge and the Gateshead Millennium Bridge were among the renowned monuments to celebrate this milestone

It is hoped that thousands of fans from the International Rugby League will descend on Newcastle, providing an economic boost to the region

The city has already hosted a rugby league after hosting some successful magical weekends with the home of Newcastle United set to host the popular event on May 29-30, 2021

Despite the coronavirus pandemic, organizers remain confident that the tournament will take place, although they have confirmed that refunds will be given to fans with tickets for canceled matches

Councilor Ged Bell, a member of the Jobs and Culture Cabinet, said: « There are only 12 months left before the eyes of the sporting world focus on Newcastle as our city kicks off the rugby union world 2021

« Planning is underway for what will be a spectacular celebration of rugby and the start of the largest tournament in the rich history of the rugby league

« Visitors and residents alike will enjoy a lively, vibrant and colorful Opening Ceremony, followed by an exceptional weekend of matches with England’s first match at St James Park and Scotland on the grounds of Kingston Park headlining early days of action

« Newcastle has built a world-class reputation as a city capable of putting on a show and hosting major sporting events The pandemic has put many of our events on hold this year, but we can consider the program in 2021 with renewed energy and hope Large-scale events draw hundreds of thousands of visitors to our city and will be critical to long-term economic recovery from the pandemic « 

Sarah Green, Managing Director of the NewcastleGateshead Initiative, added: « We cannot wait for the Rugby World Cup to kick off in Newcastle in October 2021 Hosting major events in the region provides great experiences for local residents, puts the region in the spotlight of visitors and media, and provides long-term benefits for local businesses – the European Professional Club Rugby Final. last year brought in almost £ 25million to the region economy and in 2018 the Magical Rugby League weekend saw 65,000 fans making a direct impact of nearly £ 8million

The ballot is the last opportunity for fans to purchase tickets for the tournament at promotional 2020 rates with prices that will increase when the remaining tickets go on general sale next year
