While President Daniel Levy has gone all out in a transformative transfer window, bringing in Sergio Reguilon, Gareth Bale and Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, the European transfer window has ended without the addition a central defender

However, Levy appears to have finally given boss Jose Mourinho what he wanted with a blow to Swansea City defender Joe Rodon

He arrived on a permanent basis, as Spurs passed the national deadline to sign an experienced member of the Swansea backline

Rodon is only 22, but he has 54 appearances for the Swans to his name, as well as four caps for Wales, and the deal that has been struck looks masterful

Football Insider reports that Spurs have paid around £ 15million, including an additional £ 4million, and will fit directly into Mourinho’s squad as the club seek to compete on multiple fronts

And former Premier League striker Kevin Phillips reckons they’ve found a good deal, as Rodon could potentially triple the value to £ 45million, though he’s surprised Rodon didn’t not returned on loan to Swansea

When asked if he was shocked by the player’s direct integration into the squad, he replied to Football Insider: “Yes, definitely For me I think Tottenham made some good signings I know that this area (central defender) is obviously what has been identified to strengthen

« Common sense would probably suggest bringing the player in and loaning him out directly to give him more experience

« At the start of next season or maybe in January, when he’s played a few more games, then maybe bring him back and watch him

« I think the obvious is to secure the player first and then send him back on loan and let him develop as a player

« Suddenly you’ve got a brilliant player on your hands who doubles in cash or trebles in cash and also plays for your team for the four, five, six, seven years. » »

Rodon is an excellent player with a lot of experience at club and international level and he will only get better playing with Toby Alderweireld and Davinson Sanchez every day in training

Not only that, but he will also team up with Bale and Ben Davies, his international teammates

It may come as a surprise that Spurs haven’t offered to let him return to Wales as a sweetener in the deal, but he will develop simply by training with the squad and learning under Mourinho
