A teenager who was repeatedly bitten by a shark on the coast of New South Wales in Australia survives the attack
The 13-year-old, who was not named by emergency services, was on a beach in Port Macquarie when he was bitten
The youth was treated for injuries to his foot, finger and upper leg and took him to the hospital at the base in Port Macquarie The beach was closed to members of the public on Monday
Ambulance spokesperson Susan George told The Guardian: « Surprisingly he was in a pretty good mood when our crew arrived and the local surf lifeguards did a great job looking after him when he got out of the water
« I would say this young man will have a few stories to tell his classmates when he is well enough to go back to school »
According to Australian media, the teenager’s mother watched from the shore when the attack took place and called for help when she realized what had happened
This is the second shark attack in the area this year.The first was in August when a 35-year-old woman, who was surfing at Shelley Beach, was bitten in the leg by a shark
Her husband told the Sunday Telegraph he hit the shark until he let her go. She survived the incident
A report released earlier this month said seven Australians died from shark attacks in 2020, the highest death toll for nearly 90 years
