Danny Mills urged Chelsea to sell N’Golo Kante to fund transfer of West Ham midfielder Declan Rice
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider correspondent Dylan Childs, the former Manchester City and England full-back said the Frenchman had not been at his best for 18 months
French media Le Parisien claimed during the international break that Kante fell out with Frank Lampard after the Chelsea boss refused to let Kante attend a friend’s wedding
However, the club deny there was an explosion calling the story « utter nonsense », as reported by the Daily Mail
Rice is a long-term Chelsea target, with Lampard admiring the 21-year-old’s ability to play both in defense and in midfield
This site revealed last month that the Blues were ready to test West Ham’s nerves with a huge partial trade offer
Chelsea hiring officials were privately encouraged that a deal could be made and Mills urged them to sell Kante to fund the move
Asked by Football Insider if he could see Kante leave next summer, Mills replied, « I can and I don’t think it would be the worst deal in the world.
« If you let N’golo Kante go and bring in Declan Rice, who in six months or a year will probably be even better than he is now
« Kante hasn’t played in his preferred position due to injuries and formation changes for a few years
« If there is an opportunity to bring in a younger player who will have more longevity and the costs will balance out, I think it would be a good deal »
Since arriving at Stamford Bridge four years ago, he has played 176 times for the Blues in all competitions
