Matchmaking will continue to separate PC and console players by default, but you can mix it up if you wish

Crossplay in Apex Legends was promised in June, and it’s finally about to arrive: Respawn Entertainment today announced that the crossplay beta test, available on Origin, Xbox One and PlayStation 4, will be uploaded on October 6 also see the start of the Aftermarket Collection event and a brand new limited-time mode called Flashpoint

Crossplay beta participants will be able to add friends and party with players on all other platforms, and the friend list will show which platforms your friends are playing on. In-game chat will work for cross-platform parties, but cross-platform progression will not be supported in the beta It could happen, however: Respawn has said it will talk more about it when the Steam version of Apex Legends goes live later this year ( Crossplay will also be supported on Steam when it launches)

To prevent console gamers from being constantly smoked by the mouse and keyboard crowd, matchmaking will continue to separate PC and console gamers even after the cross-platform game has gone live. Likewise, cross-platform games will be categorized exclusively as PC matches: this prevents PC players from participating in console matches, but gives console players the ability to jump into that fray if they wish.

Apex players who prefer to avoid all of this and stay on their own turf will also have this option, as cross-platform play can be turned off entirely through the settings menu. However, Respawn has warned that disabling it could result in « very, very long » wait times, as players who disable cross play will only be matched with others who have also disabled it. Wait times for noncrossed matches will depend on how many players decide to opt out, but cross play will be enabled by default once the beta has started and Respawn expects the vast majority of players to leave it as well.

Crossplay is obviously the big news coming on October 6, but the new Flashpoint LTM also seems like a good time. No healing items will be generated during the event – instead, players will regenerate their health and shields by standing inside areas called Flash Points which will be scattered all over the Kings Canyon map To further complicate matters, the LTM will also incorporate the Always Be Closing rules: the ring won’t stop closing, so players will have to keep moving, and it will always close on a flash point

The event will also bring 24 themed cosmetics to the game, available for direct purchase and through Event Apex Packs, and there will also be other offers and an event-exclusive price track. The Aftermarket Collection event runs until October 20 – full details are available on playapexcom
