BARBARA Windsor fans have launched a social media campaign to have a memorial statue erected in their hometown in London.

Shoreditch born and raised actress Carry On and EastEnders died Thursday at the age of 83 after a six year battle with Alzheimer’s disease.

Dame Barbara’s TV friends, Christopher Biggins and Paul O’Grady, have already called for a service to be remembered after the Covid-19 rules were restricted.

Fans were equally frustrated that she couldn’t give her the goodbye she deserved and headed to Twitter to erect a permanent memorial to the actress.

« I really have a feeling we need a statue of Dame Barbara Windsor, » wrote one fan. « She’s a national treasure to scream out loud! »

Another agreed: « A statue of Lady Barbara Windsor in Shoreditch is a must, » and a third intervened: « The great Barbara Windsor should have a statue put up in London! »

« A statue for Babs. Let’s do that, « said a tweet simply. « She is and remains the queen of stage, television and film. «

Although she hadn’t worked for three years until her death, the actress was found to have saved a £ 1 million nest egg.

Dame Barbara left EastEnders in 2016 and appeared as the voice of Dormouse in Tim Burton’s Alice Through The Looking Glass that same year.

After starring in nine Carry On films, the actress made one final appearance in a BBC biography of her life in 2017.

Although Barbara had three husbands, nightclub owners Ronnie Knight, Stephen Hollings, and Scott Mitchell, she had no children.

Schoolchildren found dead in the village when 2 boys aged 14 & 19 were arrested for murder
