Burton Albion’s unbeaten four-game run ended when Ipswich Town struck late to sentence the Brewers to a 2-1 loss on Portman Road.

The game appeared to be another 1-1 draw for Jake Buxton’s side after Joe Powell canceled Keanan Bennetts opener, only with Emyr Huws scooping the points for Town in the final 10 minutes.

Burton made two changes from the page that started on Saturday with MK Dons, Niall Ennis and John-Joe O’Toole in place of Ciaran Gilligan and the banned Stephen Quinn.

The game started 2. 000 Ipswich fans and within four minutes they were partying. A long ball forward was nodded in the path of Bennetts, who drove over Kieran O’Hara into the farthest corner.

It was the first time since the Northampton loss in November that the Brewers had fallen behind and they tried to hit back quickly through Michael Bostwick even though his long range shot was blocked.

O’Hara pushed a heavy shot from Kayden Jackson at the near post within eight minutes, then Bennetts threatened another tricky run and shot from 20 yards, which curled up far. At the other end, Powell couldn’t take advantage of a couple of free kicks.

But after 21 minutes, the former West Ham youngster brought Burton up to par. Charles Vernam fed the ball to Colin Daniel, whose pass from the left struck Powell in the box and scored his sixth goal of the season in all competitions for the first time under goalkeeper David Cornell.

Huws had in the 34. A tame shot for Town, which was picked up by O’Hara, before Oli Hawkins went past the goal. Bennetts then fired another attempt from Ipswich on the edge of the area when the teams were level at break.

Hawkins saw the first attempt of the second half deflected for a corner before Bostwick went up in flames for the Brewers after a good job by Vernam on the other end.

O’Hara parried a long-range shot from Alan Judge, who then fired another attempt for the hosts. Daniel then went into referee Darren Bond’s book for a late challenge against Huws before the Welshman saved O’Hara when the match hit the hour mark and Judge hit wide again.

O’Hara comfortably rescued Stephen Ward before a lengthy interruption occurred as Ennis was treated for a head injury after a collision with Mark McGuinness, although the loaned Wolfman was able to continue.

That interruption seemed to have drained the remaining energy, but with ten minutes left Ipswich regained the lead. The judge’s cross was left untreated by Sam Hughes, and in a subsequent fight in the box, Huws saved O’Hara before heading home after the rebound.

In the 86. Vernam struck a shot wide wide of the goal before Bostwick was yellowed for a late tackle against Judge. Three minutes later, the Brewers had a golden chance to equalize. Luke Chambers failed to get Ennis’ ball into the box, only Lucas Akins overtook Akins to win with only Cornell.

When the game started six minutes after the injury, a poor duel from Armando Dobra sparked an argument. The Ipswich man went into the umpire’s book along with Ryan Edwards and John Brayford.

Town almost added a third in the seventh minute. Substitute Aaron Drinan shot at the feet of O’Hara and Hawkins before referee Bond confirmed Burton’s ninth loss and kept them at the foot of the league’s one table.
