While the nation waits for news as to whether we’ve got a Brexit trade deal, Larry, the No.. 10, in a two-way dispute his own

As the nation waits for a post-Brexit trade deal update, it was Larry, the Downing Street cat, who caught the attention of policy watchers when he himself got into a dramatic argument – with a pigeon.

The tabby tracked the bird outside the Prime Minister’s official residence on Thursday as media representatives waited to hear from Boris Johnson watched with their cameras.

Although Larry caught his unsuspecting victim, the pigeon managed to flutter free and, after a brief argument, fly away seemingly unharmed.

The drama came when the government continued to negotiate a trade deal between the UK and the European Union, with widespread expectation that a deal was imminent.

Officially known as the main moult, Larry was inducted into Battersea Dogs and Cats Home in 2011 and is believed to have « strong predatory drive ». .

Former Conservative Prime Minister David Cameron expressed his fondness for the animal and said he would « make a great addition » to team number 10 at the time.

On his Prime Minister’s final questions as Tory leader in 2016, Mr. Cameron told the Commons, « Unfortunately, I can’t take Larry with me, he belongs to the house and the staff love him very much – just like me. «

Larry was less popular with rival cat Palmerston, who lived across the street from the Foreign Office until he retired.

Before Larry was cared for in Battersea, he was a stray and used to « fending for himself on the street, » a Downing Street spokesman previously said.

Larry was the first cat to own the pied piper portfolio since Humphrey retired in 1997.

Humphrey was briefly replaced in 2007 by Sybil, the pet of then Chancellor Alistair Darling – but the Mauser was unable to settle and returned to Scotland.
