The Eden project in Cornwall is closed until further notice after heavy rains caused multiple landslides on the edges of the former quarry

The Eden Project in Cornwall has been closed due to flooding and multiple landslides at the popular attraction.

Visitors have reported being turned away on arrival. A source told Cornwall Live that the website had been evacuated due to the « major incident ». .

Laura Gavasingha said she was turned away after a man came up to them and yelled to get to their cars.

« A man in his high vis came down yelling at everyone to get back in their cars and that it was going to close.

The Eden project is closed until further notice. Nobody was injured in the floods or landslides.

David Rowe, head of media relations at the Eden project, told Spiegel: « Large amounts of rainwater have caused several landslides.

« It’s a former quarry, so there have been several landslides on the edge of the site.

On Twitter, Anna Louise Buzzard wrote: « Eden Project, are you going to tweet about the fact that you are closed today?

« Since we’ve just made the 45 minute journey and turned away, a quick tweet or email message would have been handy! »

He wrote online: « I’m glad no one was hurt. Just got very upset boys who couldn’t see Santa Claus today as they were turned away at the main gates, especially after a 40 minute drive. « 

The Eden Project opened in 2001 and houses many tropical plants in its two domes.

People in Cornwall had to evacuate their homes in the middle of the night on Friday, amid heavy flooding that flooded streets and fields.

The rains fell over much of the west coast of Great Britain and the Midlands for most of Friday.
