Chairman Louis Camilleri announced on Friday, the evening before the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix at the weekend, that he had left Ferrari for personal reasons.
He was appointed to replace Sergio Marchionne in July 2018, who felt unwell and died days later.
Camilleri suffered a severe attack of Covid-19 and recently left the hospital to continue recovering at home.
During his tenure as boss he made changes – he brought the current team boss Mattia Binotto to succeed Maurizio Arrivabene and decided this year not to keep the four-time champion Sebastian Vettel in the next season.
« Ferrari has been a part of my life and it has been a great privilege to serve as general manager, » Camilleri said in a statement from Ferrari.
“My admiration for the extraordinary men and women of Maranello and for the passion and dedication they put into everything they do knows no bounds.
“I’m proud of the company’s numerous successes since 2018 and I know that Ferrari’s best years are yet to come. ”
Ferrari has had a difficult and disappointing season this year and was unable to win a race. In 2019, the team caused controversy with an irregular aggregate.
