Gordon, Gino & Fred: The desperate search for Santa Claus should be a magical journey through the « real Narnia » of Finnish Lapland. Unfortunately, it was more of an undesirable tour through the clearly disturbed heads of the moderators.
Celebrity chefs Gordon Ramsay and Gino D’Acampo, as well as First Dates presenter Fred Sirieix, seemed keen to bring out the magic of their enchanting surroundings with endless fart jokes, boisterous pec grabbing (« Your nipples are huge! ») , phallic innuendos (« I want you to guess your sausage ») and nudity.
Although the group shows the intellectual ages of toddlers, Ramsay’s fear of aging was a theme that ran through the show. This resulted in Lapland being reoccupied as a sort of playground for alpha males, who were ravaged by midlife crises when the team tried to sort their « father-bodies » with ice-water swimming.
One thing I haven’t missed this party season is getting a friend’s boyfriend cornered at the gym while booming about his Fitbit. Unfortunately, the same effect came when Ramsay watched ice diving « increase blood flow » and « help tighten things up ». . Viewers were also pampered to see D’Acampo in a mankini. Apparently, we didn’t suffer enough in 2020.
Elsewhere, the trio « helped » with reindeer herding, accidentally drove the animals farther away, camped under the northern lights, but fell asleep before they could witness and embarrassed themselves when trying to hug trees (don’t ask).
Fortunately, the bar is currently low for entertainment and despite the relentless banter, this was an amusing enough watch, with the added bonus that any wanderlust that inspired it was quickly undermined by the thought of going on vacation with those fools drive.
