HONOLULU (AP) – A Honolulu city council has urged the city’s police chief to reinstate his coronavirus enforcement unit.
Council and Legal Affairs Committee chairman Ron Menor suggested Monday that Police Chief Susan Ballard should only ban officers currently under investigation for misconduct.
He says the rest of the officials should continue to enforce coronavirus restrictions in the city, especially as the upcoming holiday season approaches quickly.
The job of making sure Honolulu residents and tourists follow coronavirus guidelines is now being carried out by patrolmen on duty. They accept orders based on availability.
