Jake Quickenden is ready to attend The Real Full Monty On Ice tonight and tomorrow night. The show is designed to shed light on how cancer can invade intimate areas of the body. Jake and his competitors will attempt to perform dance and skate routines practically naked.

The tragedy rocked Jake and his family, but the X-Factor Star is determined to help raise awareness about the disease.

Speaking to Lorraine Kelly, he said: « It is important to do something to raise awareness about cancer. I lost both my father and brother to cancer. «

The former father of the Dancing on Ice star, Paul Quickenden, died in 2008 and four years later lost his brother to the illness.

Primary bone cancer is a rare type of cancer that starts in the bones. Around 550 new cases are diagnosed in the UK each year.

This is a separate condition from secondary bone cancer, which is cancer that spreads to the bones after developing in another part of the body.

According to the NHS, bone cancer can affect any bone, but most cases develop in the long bones of the legs or upper arms.

« Contact your GP if you or your child has persistent, severe, or worsening bone pain, or if you are concerned about any of the above symptoms, » adds the NHS.

It’s unclear why cancer cells in the bones divide and multiply quickly, but there are some risk factors associated with this.

As with most cancers, the risk of bone cancer increases with age, according to Cancer Research UK.

« With some types of bone cancer, younger people are at higher risk, » says the charity.

The risk of bone cancer appears to be associated with previous cancer treatment with radiation therapy and chemotherapy, notes the health body.

It adds, « This increase in risk may not be solely related to treatment. It may also be because cancers share risk factors, such as genetic defects, that increase the risk of bone cancer and other cancers. «

People often think that knocking or injuring a bone can cause cancer. However, research studies do not support this.
