Swansea City has earned all three points against rivals Cardiff City thanks to Jamal Lowe’s brace

Jamal Lowe made his way into Swansea City folklore when his side’s striker brace earned his team a well-deserved win in the Derby bout against Cardiff City in South Wales.

The striker scored his third goal early in the campaign to give Swansea the lead at Cardiff City Stadium.

Neil Harris’ side struggled to gain a foothold in the game and were reduced to 10 in the second half when Joe Ralls was red-carded.

Lowe then doubled his record for the afternoon with a stunning solo performance as Swansea dominated.

And they stayed in the 10th. Cleansed League to extend their unbeaten run to three games and emphatically end Cardiff’s four-game win.

Both teams received significant injuries prior to the game. Harry Wilson was rated fit from the start after being withdrawn in his team’s 2-1 triumph over Stoke City mid-week.

The addition of the Wales international meant Cardiff made the same 11 for the fifth straight year.

Visitors had Marc Guehi and Ryan Bennett back on their side, which will undoubtedly have improved the mood of Swansea believers from home, especially given the threat of set pieces from Cardiff.

Swansea took control of possession early on, which ensured the Bluebirds at the business end of the field were desperate to carry some threat.

And Steve Cooper’s men led the way in the sixth minute after Jake Bidwell’s flank returned to the edge of the six-yard box from Connor Roberts and Lowe’s thrust went under the body of Alex Smithies and into the back of the net.

The away coaches will no doubt have enjoyed the flying start, although Neil Harris and his team pulled their hair out in the back room due to the nature of the goal.

After a slow start, the hosts got into dangerous areas. Freddie Woodman routinely saved to keep Curtis Nelson’s header out of a corner, though that was the home team’s only goal in the opening half.

Bennett was the first man entered in the umpire’s notebook when he cynically blocked Mark Harris after the Wales Under-21 international appeared to break possession following the Kyle Naughton robbery.

This incident sparked a lot of activity and Swansea was able to double its lead within 19 minutes of being overloaded from a corner, despite Captain Matt Grimes’ rasping effort being brilliantly overturned on the post by Smithies.

Cardiff then had a chance to level after Roberts cheaply lost the ball, although Kieffer Moore’s shot was well blocked by Guehi after the striker stumbled by Bennett.

The truth is, Bennett was very fortunate not to receive a second yellow card for the foul, despite Wilson’s shot from the edge of the box over the crossbar after Referee John Brooks gave a Cardiff free kick.

The lack of fans did little to tame the fierce nature of the competition. Moore and Guehi were both booked after Cardiff skipper Sean Morrison previously showed a yellow card for a foul on Andre Ayew.

After a very brisk half hour, the first half was over and the Bluebirds struggled to harm their well-organized rivals who were more than happy to keep the ball when needed.

Both managers resisted the urge to make changes during the break, which meant Bennett continued to tread the water for his first 45 years after his offenses.

Although it was the Swans who started the second half on the front foot, Bidwell’s attempt from Roberts’ cross flew wide after Ralls was booked for a foul on Jay Fulton.

But, having barely posed a threat, Moore almost made up for the hosts after a long throw-in, although his bold attempt hit the bar with his heel.

Those efforts came at a price when Moore – who scored eight goals this season – was sent off with an apparent hamstring injury and Robert Glatzel took his place.

Harris’ forces saw more of the ball as the game progressed, although they remained blunt in Swansea’s half and Sheyi Ojo shot over from just outside the box after an hour.

But the Bluebirds’ surrender got all the more daunting midway through the second half when Ralls was shown a second yellow card for a dangerous foul on Korey Smith, which meant Cardiff had to play more than 20 minutes with just 10 men.

Swansea seemed more than happy to take a trick from the game to protect their lead.

And they staggeringly doubled their advantage when Lowe jumped off defense at Cardiff before bending the outside of his right foot over Smithies to give the visitors the 2-0 win.

It was just what the attacker deserved for what was undoubtedly his best all-round performance since joining Swansea from Wigan Athletic that summer.

Minutes later, he nearly sealed his hat trick, though his bend attempt was narrow when Swansea dominated with the extra man.

Guehi shot past before Wayne Routledge replaced Lowe for the final stages after Marlon Pack came on for the isolated Mark Harris.

But Swansea has rightly claimed the boastful rights to ensure Cooper is unbeaten in his three competitions against Cardiff while his side have not yet conceded a goal in those games. The Bluebirds have to return to the drawing board after a demoralizing performance.

Cardiff City: Smithies; Bacuna, Morrison (C), Nelson, Bennett; Wilson, Vaulks (Whyte 90), Ralls, Ojo; Harris (Pack 77), Moore (Glatzel 55).

Swansea City: Woodman; Naughton, Bennett, Guehi; Roberts, Smith, Fulton, Grimes (C), Bidwell; Lowe (Routledge 86), Ayew.

Bidwell searches for Ayew in the Cardiff box, but Bennett does just enough to keep him from header.

I think the away game would show a lot of appreciation if there were fans here today.

Smith is behind the Cardiff defense and takes on Marc Guehi of all people.

Swansea breaks again and Lowe cuts in from the left and bends you towards the gate on the edge of the area.

A lovely runaway from Swansea led by Andre Ayew who slips into Lowe, and number nine just snakes deeper into the Cardiff half, shaking off Wilson in a duel before unleashing a nifty underdog on the edge of the Exit box.

Ralls is going all out on Smith outside of Smith. He catches his husband and the referee has no choice but to produce the second yellow.

But he can’t get enough power and it’s pretty comfortable for Woodman in the end.

Ojo nicely jumps past his man on the right, drops his shoulder, cuts into it, and tries from a distance of 25-30 meters.

Ayew goes for a ball against Nelson, which seems to catch the swans forward.

It falls to Moore, who tries with his back to the gate to throw it into the ground and towards the gate.

It looks tight from a tight angle and Moore seems to have pulled an Achilles tendon because of his problems.

He gets a little wallop in the face from Ralls for his problems and goes downstairs undercover.

Roberts throws a long toss in the Cardiff box at Ayew, but a combination of Morrison and Nelson sees Cardiff clear their lines.

Bacuna almost gets into trouble after giving the ball away to the right, but Fulton picks it up and his pass is poor.

Good position to get a ball into the box here, but Roberts’ delivery is poor and Cardiff clear.

Yes, you may be right to feel annoyed that you didn’t drop Ryan Bennett, but you didn’t offer nearly enough in the final third.

In the meantime, Steve Cooper’s only criticism will be that his side didn’t really give Smithies anything to do in the Cardiff goal.

His side looked sharper, more inventive, and much more energetic in the middle of the park.

If you can find a head start in the last third, you are really in business.

Fulton tries to score a cross from the right, but he makes a throw.

His team has played some nice football at times and Cardiff just hasn’t put a glove on them.

Of course, a lot is being done about Bennett, who could have received a second yellow card for this foul on Moore.

Another Cardiff free kick when Ojo is fouled by Grimes. No card, but he gets a tough talk from the referee.

Cardiff lets the ball float, but goes completely out of a goal kick.

Roberts plays it softly at Ayew on the edge of the six-yard box, but his touch lets him down and Cardiff clears.

Ayew tries his luck on the half volley from a distance a few moments later, but it’s right at Smithies.

The couple exchange a few words and things get a little hot for a moment between the two players.

The free-kick is played by Wilson, but Morrison’s flick-on finds no one and drifts out for a goal kick.
