Brackley Town legend James Armson not only has to run his own business, but has additional motivation for a historic result against Tranmere in the second round of the FA Cup on Friday night.

On the eve of @BrackleyTownFC @EmiratesFACup and @TranmereRovers, we met with manager Kevin Wilkin to get his opinion on the big game. Here is the first part of our chat as an official sleeve partner. Good luck Brackley Town! image. Twitter. com / JxfAW8fsCW

Armson stated, “We lost our clubhouse in an accident last summer. It burned down. We missed a lot of cash sales and fans drinking there.

“And in addition to the pandemic, as with any club or organization outside the league, we have felt the crisis. We are lucky that we were able to keep the club together.

“So that we are still in this position and have the chance to make history, we should be proud as a club. ”

Before 2013, the sixth division Brackley Town had never made it into the second round of the FA Cup – but in the past seven years they have made it three times.

Armson has led the way on the last two occasions, particularly in 2016 when – having just joined the club – he scored a hat-trick in a 4-3 replay win against Gillingham to make his name into the history books.

And four years later, after Bishop’s Stortford was beaten 3-2 in the first round after a dramatic 3-3 penalty shoot-out, the third round awaits you.

Midfielder Armson, who has played in every position on the pitch throughout his career, said, “If a non-league club can only have one FA Cup story for players to tell their kids, that’s pretty amazing but for Brackley we are very fortunate to have three.

« When you are younger you dream of playing in an FA Cup final. I’m nowhere good enough for that, so my final is the third round for me.

“I remember as a teenager watching my local club Nuneaton play the third round against Middlesbrough in 2006 with Steve McClaren manager and Gareth Southgate on defense.

“It was incredible for the whole city. It would be nice to do that for Brackley. ”

A first place in the third round for Brackley would also provide the funds to support one of the lucky ones in another league.

Armson, 30, said: “I know a lot of other clubs like us that have to outsource players. We’re lucky in the sense that we kept our group together and were able to take advantage of the government grants.

« But we as players do not put any pressure on ourselves in this sense. « . Our work is about what happens on the pitch. People in various roles in the club can worry about the money side.

« We have to do this for ourselves and the fans. It was hard for her. Brackley is not a huge place and you will meet the faces of those who support us. We will perform for them. ”

In addition to the FA Cup exploits, Armson ran his company, Positive Impact – a group that provides alternative education and counseling for children who are no longer in mainstream education.

Armson – who has a wife and two young children – said, « It was tough. I didn’t go to university and don’t have a degree in business administration.

« You lose your sleep, lie awake at night and things pop in your head, but not about soccer.

“There is a difference between Jimmy Armson, the footballer, and James Armson, the businessman. For me they are two different sides.

« People asked me if I was nervous. I haven’t even thought about it. With the pandemic, I’m busy updating risk assessments and health and safety procedures.

« I also have a family that I can support and take care of. I like to play soccer, it’s a hobby. And right now it’s a relief. ”
