When the FIA Formula 2 Championship returned to the race at the Bahrain International Circuit, Carlins Jehan Daruvala qualified eighth for the main race of the penultimate lap of the season. His team-mate and young Red Bull colleague Yuki Tsunoda was unable to set a lap time and is starting from the grid for the main race.
While the two Carlin drivers are training with Daruvala 3. and Tsunoda 2. and 3. were strong, qualifying was a whole different story. Early runs were interrupted, with Daruvala 11th and Tsunoda spinning and causing a red flag due to a technical issue. After the red flag, Daruvala’s only Carlin improved to eighth place, but was still a long way from pole position.
As Daruvala went into the last couple of runs, he initially improved his lap time, but his position remained unchanged. Unfortunately, another red flag was called within a minute, affecting Jehan Daruvala’s chances for a final flying lap.
However, the Indian driver is in a good starting position for the 32-lap race (60 minutes) as the top 8 drivers will compete in reverse order in the sprint race on Sunday.
The feature race starts on Saturday at 2pm. 40 p.m. (IST) and will be broadcast live on the official F1 YouTube channel.
