. . How to react to trolls.

. .

Naga Munchetty of BBC Breakfast delivered a compassionate masterclass in dealing with trolls on social media.

The moderator, known for holding politicians accountable first thing in the morning, was one of the leading voices in getting the government in place for what was needed more than ever during the coronavirus pandemic.

Just last month, she was commended for « taking apart » Health Secretary Matt Hancock during a tough interview about pay freezes.

However, when a troll mistook barbecue politicians for “biased” on the most pressing issues, Naga struck back with only kindness.

The angry observer wrote: “Nagger (sic. ) Shut up and let people reply that you are an expert on nothing except that you are an overpaid biased witch! “

Instead of addressing the poison of the audience, Naga simply replied, « I send you great love, Rosie X. . ‘

Naga has spoken about dealing with trolls in the past, which unfortunately has become part of the territory for the BBC Breakfast presenters.

Naga appeared on BBC Radio Five Live and spoke to Emma Barnett and writer Matt Haig about how their mental health is affected by online abuse.

« I tend to have an assertive way of dealing with people who abuse me on Twitter. she said.

She continued, “People who say something on Twitter would never say it to your face. Not that I invite someone to say something terrible to my face in real life – just don’t tell me anything terrible. ‘
