Robert Downey Jr. . is grateful for his role as Iron Man, but says he’s done playing the character.
Superheroes can live on as long as the company that founded them tells their stories. But actors have limited careers. Robert Downey Jr. says his days as Iron Man are over and he is grateful for the decade he spent playing the troubled inventor who became a hero.
« I’ve done all I could with this character and can do other things now, » said Downey Jr. . told the Hindustan Times in a recent interview. « Now, in middle age, you look at the back nine and find that this is all part of the journey and things end. I am happy and immensely grateful that I ended up where I am. «
Downey first took on the role of Tony Stark and his super-alter ego in Iron Man, the MCU’s first film in 2008. His apparent last appearance in the role was in 2019 in Avengers: Endgame. It has been reported that he could potentially only repeat the role in Black Widow in one cameo, which was postponed to May 2021.
Downey, 55, says he has spent a lot of time with his family and is trying not to let the coronavirus pandemic overwhelm him. He played as Dr. . John Dolittle, the fictional English veterinarian who can talk to animals, in the 2020 film Dolittle. Upcoming work includes part of Jamie Foxx’s 2021 sports comedy All-Star Weekend, as well as a third film in the Sherlock Holmes film franchise.
