Schools are allowed to plan a day on the last Friday of the semester so that employees do not have to identify any potential coronavirus cases on Christmas Eve, said the school minister.
Nick Gibb told MPs on the Commons Education Committee that he wanted « clear six days » between the end of semester and Christmas Eve that teachers could help track down students who subsequently tested positive for coronavirus.
If a school is open on Jan.. If December could hold an inset day, staff could take a « reasonable break, » he said, and therefore Christmas Eve would be on the seventh day after the children last attended school.
