In conversation with BBC journalist Victoria Derbyshire on I’m A Celebrity Get Me Out Of Here! On Sunday night, Shane discussed how to get his legendary role as Alfie Moon on the BBC One soap opera.

He first described a scene he performed as an audition with the actors behind the characters Paul Trueman (Gary Beadle), Sharon Watts (Letitia Dean) and Robbie Jackson (Dean Gaffney). .

Shane explained to Victoria, « I remember going in and Gary Beadle, Tish Dean and I think Dean Gaffney were all in the Queen Vic and I did a little (scene).

« When I got to the car, my manager had called and said, » You didn’t think you were right. « . « 

He continued, « Then my manager got a call saying to come back and improvise. They have the idea of ​​this family that they are working on.

« So I went in and Tony Jordan who made the Slaters was a huge fan of John Sullivan (just fools and horses) and he always wanted to create The Trotters, but in EastEnders.

« So I kept coming back but still had no idea what was going on. So let’s go on vacation, I’m bankrupt because of this movie I invested in, I have nothing, I’m selling the house, no work.

The moment turned out to be very emotional for Shane when he realized what a large part he had landed at a crucial moment in his career.

He continued, « I was getting tearful and I started talking about this character called Alfie Moon. I started crying on my first episode where I was going to take on Queen Vic. « 

The love for the character of Alfie Moon and his romance with Kat Slater (Jessie Wallace) in the BBC One soap were not lost with Victoria either.

On The Telegraph, Victoria commented, « Alfie Moon in EastEnders was utterly iconic. Alfie & Kat as a couple, the love story that went on for months was just great. « 

Shane also shared a moving story about the time he joined EastEnders and when he was reunited with a face from the past.

He described, « Jump back 25 years to the 80s and I’m warming up on the Late Late Breakfast Show.

« There’s a runner on the floor making cups of tea and someone started yelling at her, she’s getting weepy. I went over and tried, sat down with her and said, « Let me make you a cup of tea. « .

« On my first day at EastEnders, they said you wanted to meet the director.

« I was so nervous and shaking, all the cast were there and I come around the corner and the director says, » Here, Shane, here is a cup of tea. « . « 

Victoria gasped in response to the story and said, « OMG, it’s she who makes me cry, this is a brilliant story. « 

Shane then said: « And from 2002 it was only mental, everything about timing, crazy how. « 

Alfie Moon was a central figure in EastEnders from 2002 until he left in 2005, but returned in 2010 before leaving in 2016.

His last visit was in Walford in 2018 before he fled Albert Square again in early 2019.
