Travel agents have received requests from Indians wanting to travel to the UK as soon as possible to get the COVID-19 vaccine approved by the UK government on Wednesday.
A travel agent is planning to start a three-night package for the Indians who want to benefit from the UK mass vaccination drive, which is expected to start as early as next week.
The UK became the first country on Wednesday to approve the Pfizer / BioNTech vaccine against COVID-19 following a « rigorous » analysis by its independent drug and health products regulator (MHRA). .
A Mumbai-based travel agent told PTI that some people asked questions Wednesday about how and when and if they can travel to the UK to get the COVID-19 vaccine.
« I told them it was too early to tell (whether Indians can be vaccinated in the UK). . Anyway, the first to get the vaccine are the elderly and health workers in the UK who are most susceptible to the coronavirus, ”the agent added.
Nishant Pitti, Co-Founder and CEO of EaseMyTrip. com said while this is an unusual season to travel to London, it has already received requests from some Indians who have UK visas and can afford to travel to London following the Pfizer vaccine announcement on Wednesday.
He said his company is awaiting clarification from the UK government on whether or not there are mandatory quarantine requirements for travelers wishing to be vaccinated and whether or not Indian passport holders are eligible to be vaccinated.
Pitti said his company plans to launch a three-night package for those who want to travel to the UK just for the purpose of vaccination.
“We are dealing with an airline to offer seats at a fixed price. We already have deals with London hotels. And we’re planning to do a deal with a hospital there so we can package it up, ”he said.
The latest UK government regulations state that from the 15th. December each international arrival in the UK must remain in self-isolation for five days and then perform the RT-PCR test on the sixth day. The passenger can leave the isolation on the sixth day if the test is COVID negative.
On Wednesday, a Bengaluru-based travel company announced that Indians were asking if they could take a short non-quarantine trip to the UK to get the Pfizer vaccine.
However, Jyoti Mayal, president of the Travel Agents Association of India (TAAI), told PTI that people are just « waiting and watching » to know what the vaccine will look like.
« Even though the government said the vaccine would have no side effects, people want to watch all of this before they get the shot, » Mayal noted.
