Liberty Savage (Jessamy Stoddart) agreed to join this evening (14. December) after Sienna Blake (Anna Passey) to go to the hospital in Hollyoaks. convinced her it was the right thing to do.
Liberty has had postpartum psychosis since Faith was born earlier this year.
Channel 4 Soap has partnered with Charity Action on Postpartum Psychosis to ensure the story is presented as accurately and empathetically as possible.
Viewers will know that the young woman saw visions of her dead niece Nico (Persephone Swales-Dawson) – something Sienna discovered a few weeks ago and therefore worried about her sister.
The matter escalated last week when Liberty discovered Faith was not doing well, but Nico had managed to convince her not to take the baby to the hospital.
Sienna intervened and a showdown ensued between the two sisters that resulted in Liberty getting him out of there.
After Sienna found her in The Folly, she tried to show Liberty that – despite what « Nico » said – she only wants the best for her.
Talk to Metro. co. British actress Jessamy Stoddart said, « Liberty’s natural maternal instinct gives her the right red flags to feel, but she has all the external noise of Sienna and Nico.
« Sienna’s voice is now more like Liberty’s, which is somewhere in there. I think we see a bit of Liberty: « I understand you » and Sienna: « I understand you too! ». ‘
Postpartum psychosis (PP) is a severe but treatable form of mental illness that occurs after the birth of a child. It can happen “out of the blue” to women with no prior experience with mental illness. There are some groups of women, for example women with a history of bipolar disorder, who are at much higher risk. PP usually starts in the first few days to weeks after giving birth. It can get worse very quickly and should always be treated as a medical emergency. Most women require medication and hospitalization.
With the right treatment, women with PP make a full recovery. Recovery takes time and the journey can be difficult. The disease can be scary and shocking for the woman who is experiencing it as well as for her family. Women return to their normal selves and can regain the expected motherhood. There is no evidence that postpartum psychosis affects the baby’s long-term development.
The postpartum period can be a devastating time for a serious mental illness. For women with PP, their partners, friends, and family, it can be difficult to find quality information about symptoms, causes, and treatment.
Liberty finally listened to Sienna and together they took Faith to the hospital. Liberty, however, continued to see Nico – whose voice became more and more implacable.
Jessamy said, « It’s that kind of push and pull to agree to go to the hospital and then come to the hospital. « .
« Getting to the hospital is one thing and actually waiting for the doctor is another thing. ‘
