World News – UK – The five most important quotes from Vadaine Oliver’s press conference outside Charlton

. . Gillingham forward Vadaine Oliver spoke to the press ahead of his team's game against Charlton on Saturday.

. .

Before the game, Gill’s striker Vadaine Oliver took action against the press. Here are five of his key quotes.

“We had days off at the weekend, but we had some tough training days. Going into a weekend and not mentally preparing for a game is different, but it was a good time to get down and work on a few things. ”

Gillingham hasn’t had a game in 11 days, which is unusual for players but can be an advantage before a packed schedule.

Oliver – and the rest of the Gillingham team – hope that they are refreshed and can barely walk again.

« It would be a massive boost. It’s almost like an extra man on the pitch. For the most part where things don’t go right, fans can give you that extra boost and it would be great for them – it’s been difficult across the country what we’re going through to give fans that extra boost it would be good to see again the team you support.

“I haven’t had the full taste of playing for the club yet, but I’m looking forward to it. If I’ve played as an opponent here they are a bunch – it can be intimidating and kick you on the back so it would be a huge plus for us to have the fans back. ”

Oliver has only signed for Gillingham so has not yet played as Blue in front of their fans, but he is aware of the noisy crowd that Priestfield believers can be.

“We have a good mix when it comes to attacks. We have people like Trae [Coyle] who can cut in, have lively feet, and follow up. Jordan [Graham] has great feet too and probably the best delivery in the league. Dom [Samuel] can play off the shoulder, he’s a bit of a fox in a box, and then you have me and John [Akinde] to occupy a defense. We all have our ability to influence a game and it’s important that we have that on a team.

“For me, my relationship with Jordan is perfect. When I signed, he signed not long after and I had known him before because he came in Northampton. We built a little friendship and partnership there and I told the head lighting technician that we needed him, but luckily for you he signed this on loan! When I came and he signed I was humming because I knew his deliveries are what I live on. It works, and it’s the perfect partnership. ”

Gillingham has fought for goals at times this season but they are regaining their form. Dominic Samuel, Trae Coyle, John Akinde and Oliver himself have found the net at some point in the last three games.

Oliver has partnered with Jordan Graham on and off the pitch and that has been key to Gillingham’s game this year.

« I have a huge amount. I know for sure when I’m on the field that out of thin air I don’t think I would lose. You have to cut that confidence in half because if you don’t, you will be a shell of yourself. But I know that if you don’t have three players around me that day I’ll beat my opponents and I think that helps the team and gives them the ball.

“I’m looking at the halves of the opposition center. When we warm up, the defenders will kick the ball against them and I’ll look at the back four and find out who is the weakest and who I’m going to target. I will always aim at who I am going to bully and if I do this to him I will confuse it, but you have to keep an eye on your opposition. ”

Oliver has won the most dogfights in the league this season and that doesn’t seem to be changing anytime soon.

« We know what you are capable of, you are a great site. We know they’ve been doing well lately, but when we’re at it we know what we’re capable of.

« We did well at home and are confident that we will get involved. I don’t know about everyone else, but I live off the outsider mentality. Nobody expects you to do anything or do it well and I want to show people what we are all about. We didn’t have any results against the big teams, but overall we did well.

“Everyone is lively in training. Trae is on fire, Dom has scored a few goals, Jord assisted. The backline looks strong – Mags [Christian Maghoma], Jack Tucker, Jacko [Ryan Jackson] – all of them play and are in shape and look bright and sharp. We are ready for that. ”

Charlton is going to be a tough game for the Gills, but at home when they’re on song they’ll like it.

Only will show how beneficial the free time was and how they hold their own against one of the biggest teams in the league.
