The actor, who was best known for his roles as Detective Seargant John Watt in Z-Cars and Charlie Grace in EastEnders, also like his roles in Casualty, died peacefully in his sleep
A statement from his agent reads: “It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved client Frank Windsor at the age of 92
« Born Frank W Higgins on July 12, 1928, his acting career spanned over 50 years, with notable roles in Z-Cars, Softly Softly, Casualty and Peak Practice
« Frank is survived by his daughter Amanda and his wife Mary, who were by his side until the end
« As per Frank’s wishes and in accordance with Covid restrictions, there will be no funeral or memorial service, just a private cremation with his ashes laid with his beloved son David
Frank’s on-screen career began in 1955, with the actor appearing in such characters as The Avengers in the 60s, Softly, Softly, 60s to 70s, and Doctor Who in the 80s
Between 1991 and 2004 he appeared in Casualty as Kenneth Samuels and Leslie Smith, and his last role was in 2004, when he played M Walker between two women
Tributes poured in for the star, with one fan writing: « RIP Frank Windsor A great actor and personality, always welcome to the screens »
