After a weekend in which the death toll from COVID-19 surpassed 10,000 and as the number of people requiring hospital care for coronavirus infection increases, Charlie Baker will announce new orders related to the economic reopening of the state on Monday afternoon
The governor’s office said it, Lt Gov Karyn Polito and Health and Human Services Secretary Marylou Sudders, will detail « new decrees affecting the reopening process due to the recent increase in new COVID-19 cases and hospitalizations across the state ”at 1:30 p.m.m press conference Monday
There were 2,431 new confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Massachusetts over the weekend, 10,013 people with confirmed or probable cases of the virus have died here since mid-March, and the fall resurgence virus seems to be in progress
The state has reported over 1,000 new cases of COVID-19 every day for more than a week Baker’s press conference will be televised live from the State House shortly after 1:30 p.m.
On Friday, Rhode Island Gov Gina Raimondo announced she was reducing her state’s gathering limit from 15 to 10, banning spectators at youth sporting events for the next two weeks, cutting hospital visits and retirement homes and closed indoor sports facilities for a week
According to WPRI, Rhode Island was « on track » to open a field hospital in the coming weeks
