According to broadcaster WPVI-TV, the protesters behaved violently, carried out arson and vandalism, and eventually clashed with the police
At least 30 law enforcement officers were injured as a result of the clashes, the majority of whom were hit by handcrafted assault tools such as bricks and stones, according to the report
Protests began in Philadelphia on Monday night after police shot dead a black man, allegedly armed with a knife, who was approaching them despite orders to stop and drop the gun
The victim’s mother claimed that the 27-year-old suffered from mental problems and was on medication
The Philadelphia protests marked another turning point in the month-long protests against police brutality and racial discrimination that erupted in the United States in late May after the death of another African American, George Floyd, when arrested by white police
