Rock Bridge started their week with a sweep against rival Helias on Monday The Bruins celebrated their big win, but knew there was still a big challenge ahead
They entered Wednesday’s game against locked-in Hickman (17-8-6), with the memory of the Kewpies knocking them out of last year’s playoffs replaying in their heads With the Bruins dominating (22-1-1) this season, they were ready to avenge the loss
Rock Bridge took a formidable lead early in the first set By the time Kewpies coach Greg Gunn decided to talk things over, his team were down 21-11 before the Kewpies could try. a comeback, the Bruins completed the set 25-13 Rock Bridge continued to press for dominance until the third set and, despite a courageous run from Hickman late in the game, the Bruins broke the brooms in another sweep convincing
Hickman made it tough for the Bruins early in the second set, jumping to 9-6
If I see you making that face when we lose a point, I’ll take you off, « coach Nicole Murphy said with a sad but straight face during a timeout
But Rock Bridge fought back with their own run, taking a 10-9 lead with four unanswered points The Bruins climbed 25-10 to complete the set
Hickman refused to come down quietly, however. The Kewpies entered the third set in the face of elimination, and with their backs against the wall, they started firing on all cylinders They took an 8-4 lead, and their opponents questioned every move they made
