BATON ROUGE, La (WAFB) – Col Kevin Reeves, Louisiana State Police Superintendent (LSP), is retiring after 30 years with the law enforcement agency, Gov John Bel Edwards announced on Tuesday, October 27
Gov Edwards says Col Reeves’ retirement will take effect Friday, October 30 and he will appoint a replacement in the coming days
« I am deeply grateful to Col Reeves for his decades of dedicated service as an accomplished law enforcement professional, committed to serving and protecting the people of Louisiana. Public safety has always been his top priority » , Gov Edwards said « I have appreciated his partnership and guidance over the past few years as Superintendent, especially as Louisiana has been through cybersecurity incidents, natural disasters, peaceful protests, and the COVID pandemic. Throughout his career with the Louisiana State Police, from his beginnings on motorcycle patrols to his promotion to superintendent, Col Reeves has been a model of professionalism His experience has made him a stable and strong leader in hard times, and I personally thank him and, on behalf of the State of Louisiana, I wish him and his family the success of his well-deserved retirement »
“It has truly been an honor to serve as the Louisiana State Police Superintendent and Deputy Secretary of the Department of Public Safety,” Col Reeves said, “I am eternally grateful to Governor Edwards for have faith and confidence in me and, more importantly, for the support he gives to the men and women of the Louisiana State Police As humiliating as this opportunity is, my greatest professional achievement remains the title of Trooper, a title that I have the honor to share with the more than 1,100 men and women who wear our badge. Throughout my career, I have defended the men and women of the Louisiana State Police and the heroic work they do every day They will always be family As I reflect on my career one thing is for sure, none of this would have been possible without the unwavering support of my family and I look forward to returning to northern Louisiana and to spend more time with them »
Reeves was appointed the 25th Louisiana State Police Superintendent by the Edwards government in March 2017 Reeves began his career with LSP began in 1990 as a soldier on motorcycle patrols for Troop A in Baton Rouge
His career in the State Police took him to Troop F in Monroe in 1993, where he served as a squad leader for the field mobile force and as a case officer and undercover officer in numerous investigations and operations on drugs for the Bureau of Investigations
In 2008, he was promoted to Troop Commander of F Troop before assuming the duties of Inspector of Patrol Operations Command and Commander of the State Field Force Mobile Team in 2013
