On Sunday night, the WWE Superstars returned to the Thunderdome for one of the most dangerous events of the year, Hell in a Cell
This year’s pay-per-view featured three games taking place in the oversized cage.The WWE title was one of the belts on the line when Drew McIntyre faced off against Randy Orton again
We also saw Roman Reigns put the Universal Championship on the line inside HIAC when he faced Jey Uso in a Clash of Champions rematch
Bayley pitted the SmackDown Women’s Championship against her former best friend and team partner, Sasha Banks
We also saw Otis defend the Money in the Bank contract against The Miz, while Jeff Hardy took on Elias
A late addition to the map was the kick-off match between R-Truth and Drew Gulak for the 24/7 Championship The stipulation says there can be no outside interference
Gulak spoke directly to Little Jimmy and pretended to interact with him as Truth looked at him with a confused look on his face Gulak pretended to kick his opponent’s imaginary friend out of the ring and an angry truth tackled him to the carpet
After taking a few punches in the corner, Gulak knocked Truth down and subdued him.The champion was kicked out of a sunset flip, but Gulak put him back in a submission to keep him on the ground
Truth began to make a comeback and used many of John Cena’s signature moves He failed to hit the AA but hit a lie detector for a two-count Gulak met him on the top rope for a superplex, but Truth countered and won with a jackknife blanket
The first moments of this match were an unsuccessful attempt at comedy What followed was a decent contest between two great performers who were cataloged as comedic characters
There are tons of other options WWE had for the kickoff, but fans have been asking WWE for months to make the title more meaningful 24/7 It was a small step in the right direction
They looked at each other from the other side of the ring and talked a little bit about stuff The tribal chief said he only changed because he had to and Uso said he had just changed it. do for the title They locked up and Uso was shot right away with a shoulder block
A confident Reigns hit a quick suplex and paced until Uce got back to his feet The challenger started to gain momentum and hit a few suicide dives He continued to talk to Reigns as he threw him into the cage wall
When they returned to the ring, The Big Dog pierced him with a spear He tried to bring a chair into the ring but Uso grabbed him with a dropkick Before he could call, Reigns l ‘nailed with a second spear He tried to hit a third but Uso countered and hit a superkick and a Superfly Splash
Uso grabbed a leather bracelet from under the ring and used it to whip Reigns behind the back Somehow the tribal chief stood up and hit a third spear Uso a said he couldn’t breathe but refused to stop Reigns picked up the strap and started unloading on his cousin
They got tied together and Uso started to forge a head. He ended up choking Reigns with the strap, but he couldn’t get him to say the words « I quit » Surprisingly, Reigns has applied a guillotine and suffocated Uso Reigns begged him to stop but Jey refused Even Paul Heyman begged Uso to stop to make this stop
The tribal chief dragged Uso onto the apron and hit the dropkick while driving He put the steel steps next to Jey’s head and hit him as hard as possible The referee wanted to stop the match and Reigns threw him out of the ring Several officials got out and tried to stop him but he locked them all with him
After driving them out of the ring, Reigns yelled at his cousin that it was all his fault He was about to smash Jey’s head with the steps when Jimmy got down and got in his way. called Jey by his real name, Josh, as he begged Reigns to stop The Big Dog collapsed crying and sat down next to his cousins Then he grabbed Jimmy and choked him as he ‘he was holding Jey’s hand
Jey left to save his brother and ultimately end the match Reigns overcame them with the title elevated before leaving with Heyman Afa and Sika were on stage to congratulate Reigns on his victory
It was never going to be a technical showdown or an exciting spot exchange It was all about the story told between the two people in the ring
Being able to hear every word they said to each other made everything much more personal It added weight to an already heavy situation
Some of the same rhythms were repeated in their previous encounter, but the brutality of that fight made it so much more impactful.This is one of the best storylines WWE has done in 2020 and that’s because that Uso and Reigns made it special
Was this the best HIAC game ever? No, but maybe this is the best story told inside the cell That was sports entertainment Physicality was just as important as the story
Elias performed a new song before Hardy made it to the ring They started with a few basic blocks and frank breaks before Elias hit a knee to the body and a hard right hand to get Hardy off his feet. feet
They took the fight out of the ring and Hardy was able to turn the situation around He missed a step jump and crashed into the barricade
Elias held onto the upper hand for a few minutes and nearly won with a sit-out powerbomb Hardy hit Whisper in the Wind for a two-way count He let Elias down with a Twist of Fate The singer stepped out of the ring for avoid a Swanton
Hardy stopped him from using the guitar as a weapon and turned it on Elias, getting disqualified in the process
It was going to be tough for anyone to keep up with Reigns vs Uso, so Hardy and Elias were having an uphill battle before the ref even called the bell We will try to be fair in judging this fight
As good as Hardy and Elias were, it didn’t seem like the best they could do This fight would have made more sense on an episode of Raw, especially with the arrival of disqualification
This feud will obviously continue, so at least that ending has kept either of the men from having to eat a pin right away
As soon as the ref called the bell, Otis rushed The Miz into the corner and crushed him He picked him up for a slam to score a quick two count Tucker and John Morrison were watching from ringside
JoMo provided a distraction so The Miz could hit a DDT for another near-drop Morrison hit a cheap shot behind the referee’s back The Miz hit the It Kicks in the corner and a double handle flying ax
He locked Otis in a sleeper and almost kicked him out but the big man got into a fight The Miz nailed him in the face with a big boot The bulldozer started to steam up and hit a few – some of its characteristic movements
The ref grabbed Morrison about to use the case as a weapon and she kicked him in the back As the ref was dealing with Miz, Tucker nailed Otis with the case One Shocked Miz covered it up for the win to win the MITB contract
Without a live crowd, Otis lost what made him a star in 2019 It was over because the crowd dictated it Without those cheers, he doesn’t feel like a big star anymore
Dismantling the heavy machinery was a mistake and now they’re on different brands How are they going to quarrel after Tucker’s turn unless WWE just ignores their own rules?
This match was nothing special and the heel rotation became evident as soon as Morrison was kicked out of the ring At least The Miz has the contract now It will be interesting to see if he manages to cash it
Bayley tried to use the chair while the cell was being lowered, but Banks kicked her and she landed outside the ring. Once the cell was lowered, she was out of reach The boss went right after her with straight hands
She applied the bank statement but Bayley bit her hand to force a break The role model led her to the side of the cell Banks dodged a few kendo sticks and delivered a huge knee in the face She took out a table and set it up next to the ring
Banks ran across the table to hit a meteorite against the cage She threw a few chairs in the ring but Bayley was able to throw her over the top rope She picked up a chair but failed to hit Banks on the table The boss kicked her in the table and sent her up the steel steps
She set two kendo sticks between the cage and the steps Bayley tripped her into the kendo stick and hit the steps hard The champion set up two more kendo sticks and used a slingshot to send again from the banks Banks managed to bomb Bayley from the apron in the cage wall
The role model wedged a chair in the corner and threw the back of Banks’ head in with a sunset flip for a close two count The boss found a fire extinguisher and sprayed the champion in the face She beat her former best friend but Bayley blocked a frog splash with a chair
Bayley put a ladder on two chairs to bridge the ring She painted the letter X on Banks but The Boss dodged the flying chair shot She hit Bayley’s own finisher on the ladder to A near-fall The champion recovered and hit the Bayley at Belly for another two count
The Boss locked the bank statement with the help of the president for the bid victory and take the title
Reigns and Uso may have told a more intriguing story, but Bayley and Banks made much better use of the Hell in a Cell stipulation to set up a violent and competitive match.
The way they used the various weapons found under the ring was both creative and brutal They even used the ring itself to deal as much damage as possible
These two have had many classic encounters over the years and this was another to add to the roster. Snippets from this match will be in their eventual Hall of Fame video packages
There were a few weird moments, but overall this match surpassed what were already high expectations The Banks victory was the right choice, especially if this feud is going to continue
Mustafa Ali issued a challenge earlier in the series to have any member of The Hurt Business take on anyone in Retribution Bobby Lashley stepped up for his team while Slapjack replaced his group
Slapjack tried to quickly take the lead by throwing his shirt at Lashley but The All Mighty took control anyway and pushed him into the corner with a shoulder push
Slapjack managed to get a small attack and hit a cannonball in the corner Lashley was able to apply The Hurt Lock to claim the victory As soon as it was over, Retribution rushed the ring and attacked the power plant

Lashley fought them until his teammates could come up with a tie The Hurt Business pushed them to finish the segment
Is WWE trying to bury Retribution before it even gets big? Because that’s how it goes It seems The Hurt Business is still in the lead
The match between Lashley and former Shane Thorne was short and pointless In fact, this feud is pointless WWE should have let Retribution earn a few wins before creating a stable vs stable feud
McIntyre attacked Orton before he even entered the cage They were eventually locked inside the cell and Orton landed a few good shots before the champion backed him up in the corner
McIntyre was the first to look for a gun He grabbed a steel chair and hit the viper several times while smiling ear to ear He lined up for a Claymore but Orton hit his leg with a chair
The legendary killer stomped on McIntyre’s head down the steps, then whipped him up another set of steps he placed against the wall When they returned to the ring, McIntyre started to make a comeback and threw Orton through the ring with a stomach to his stomach
He put Orton through a ringside table with another suplex The Viper took over but failed to get the three points He went back under the ring and grabbed bolt cutters to cut the chain from the cell door He tried to leave but McIntyre chased him
Orton climbed to the top of the cell and the Scottish psychopath quickly followed The Viper picked up a pipe he had hidden up there but McIntyre dodged it and attacked him They both started to descend to the side of the cell and fought until the champion fell about 10 feet across the announcement table
The 13-time champion stalked McIntyre as he crawled around the cage Orton got him into the ring and prepared to end the match with an RKO The champion countered and hit a Claymore for sending him out of the ring Orton dodged another Claymore and knocked him down with an RKO for the win to become a 14-time champion
The great thing about the three HIAC matches we had on Sunday was that they all felt completely different from each other This one was the most methodical and, in some ways, the most traditional
There was the classic spot where someone crashed through a table on the side of the cage He has a lot of guns and a few finishers sprinkled all over the place
It was the weakest of the three HIAC fights, but that doesn’t mean it wasn’t good on its own.It shouldn’t have been the main event but it was one of their best meetings
Orton winning means this feud could go on for another month, but McIntyre was better when he was chasing the title, so it might not be so bad if they have another showdown
