« Your Boy in Hanoi » – also known as US Ambassador to Vietnam Dan Kritenbrink – released a rap song to celebrate the country’s lunar New Year.
A music video that was posted early Monday on Facebook The page published by the US Embassy in Hanoi and produced by the culture magazine Vietcetera shows the father from Nebraska preparing a video audition for « Rap Viet » – the « American Idol » for Vietnamese rappers.
He works with the rapper Wowy from Ho Chi Minh City, who helps him put together verses and rhymes in both languages as they walk the streets of Hanoi, the country’s second largest city.
« Time for introductions, hello, my name is Dan, « croaks the gray-haired ambassador in the clip.
» I’m from Nebraska, I’m not a big city boy and then moved to Hanoi three years ago. «
Kritenbrink, one of the Trump administration Appointed and professional civil servant serving throughout Japan, most recently as Acting as an advisor for North Korea policy, Wowy takes hints and suggestions for the song to celebrate New Year, the country’s most important holiday.
« Grab the Hoa Mai and the Hoa đào, » says Kritenbrink, referring to Vietnamese flowers that will be used during the celebration.
« Get ready for a party from Hà Giang to Cà Mau, Tết in Vietnam is the best, I love the hot spots and the hot pots, » Kritenbrink continues, referencing in the Vietnamese name for the holiday that starts this week.
The ambassador hangs in front of the shops and drinks « cà phê sữa đá », Vietnam’s famous strong iced coffee drinks, « no cappuccinos ». He promises “money for the children, blessings for the family, love for my parents and everyone around me. ”
He wishes the Vietnamese people a“ chúc mừng năm mới ”or a Happy New Year“ from your boy in Hanoi ”and urges everyone to“ spread the joy ”.
Send at the end of the clip Kritenbrink wrote his rap song to rapper Binz Da Poet, who is the coach for « Rap Viet ».
