World News – US – ASU is recruiting class company from usual CA, AZ area for class 2021

For Herm Edwards, the football coach of the US state Arizona in the third year, this year is about quality and quantity.

Edwards on Wednesday described the end of the recruitment program to media outlets, saying the team’s 10-person Early Signing Day class will center around a group of players who can play for the Sun Devils this fall.

Edwards and Co-Defensive Coordinator Antonio Pierce believe the new line-up of players in Tempe can hit the ground once they hit the floor on Jan.. Arrive on campus on January 1st. 11.

« I think when you look at the process that works, you’re always looking for DNA and what fits and what your needs are for the most part, » Edwards said. “This year we thought that we had to upgrade certain parts of our team. As you can see, length, width, height and speed were a big factor.

« So it’s by no means over. We felt we did a really good job. Our coaching staff, led by [Pierce], have rated the kind of players that match our offense and defense as excellent. ”

Sun Devil recruitment courses have traditionally been tough in Arizona and California. They have expanded their territory this year, with more than half of the early signatory class coming from states other than these two mainstays.

Pierce highlighted this geographic diversity to illustrate how far the ASU football brand has gone outside of the Southwest.

« This year we’ve been trying to expand east of the Mississippi, looking for height and length again, looking for big bodies, » Pierce said.

“But as you can see with this program, we’ve hit every area. I think we did a good job. Obviously our footprint in the state of Arizona, state of California over the past few years, which really identifies and grows and accelerates this team. Really focused on specific positions. ”

Edwards pointed out that the Sun Devils recruiting class is far from over and told reporters that he hoped to bring seven players on through the NCAA’s transfer portal, in addition to the recruits who decided to join Day of early signature not to commit.

He and Pierce have studied the 72-page book of Current College Athletes Who Are Either Leaving Their Program or Just Wanting To Get an Image Of The Options Outside Of Their University.

« I think you have to be smart to do that, and I think we are prepared to deal with that, » said Edwards. « And if not, there will be some children that we will look at and who did not want to sign early so we can sign later. ”

Right now, Edwards and his staff are focused on adding the right players, particularly offensively and defensively, to get the Sun Devils where they want to be in the near future.

In his third season as head coach, he emphasized the importance of building the trenches.

« We’re in Pac-12 and we recognize the opponents we have to play every year. That was our attitude and we didn’t stay in a few states, ”said Edwards.

« We’ve been working year round this year, and that’s been done with the strategy of how we look at players in certain parts of the country that fit our DNA. ”
