Residents of Jamestown, in the foothills of Boulder County, were asked to evacuate on Saturday due to the new CalWood fire, emergency officials said
Officials have yet to publicly announce the scale of the blaze, but it quickly sent huge plumes of smoke into the air that could be seen from downtown Denver
Crews responded to the blaze on Saturday afternoon near the Cal-Wood Education Center, 2282 Boulder County Road 87, the Boulder County Sheriff’s Office tweeted at 12:45 p.m.
A map shared by emergency officials in Boulder showed a large evacuation area encompassing land west of the Peak to Peak Road through US 36 on the east side and Jamestown on the south end, north to South Sheep Mountain
The Boulder National Weather Service tweeted a satellite image showing the new wildfire, as well as the Cameron Peak fire in Larimer County, and called the CalWood blaze an « explosive growth in fire » Saturday afternoon
