World News – US – Police flock to Vienna synagogue after gunfire


Several people were injured and police stormed out after gunfire in Vienna, police in Austria’s capital said

Oskar Deutsch, the head of the Jewish community in Vienna, said the shooting took place on the street where the city’s main synagogue is located, but it was not clear whether it was caught for target

Austrian news agency APA quoted the country’s interior ministry as saying one assailant had been killed and another may be on the run

Police said the operation in the center of town was ongoing and urged people to avoid open spaces and public transport

« There are several injured, » police tweeted « We are on site with all available forces Please avoid all public places in the city » Police added that the circumstances of the incident are still ongoing of determination

Austrian public broadcaster ORF cited witnesses saying that several shots were fired shortly after 8 p.m. local time
