World News – US – Rage Against the Machine guitarist says ‘not what we had in mind’ to video of Trump supporters dancing to their song

Video shows several Trump supporters dancing to the group's 'Killing in the Name' in Philadelphia

Rage Against the Machine guitarist Tom Morello responded to a video of supporters of President Donald Trump dancing to one of the band’s most popular songs

The video, which was posted to Twitter by user Manny Alicandro, shows several Trump supporters dancing to the band’s song « Killing in the Name » in Philadelphia, as the ballots were counted in Pennsylvania

In the video, the chorus of the song can be heard, with the lyrics that say: « Those who are dead are justified To wear the badge, it is the chosen whites You justify those who are dead By wearing the badge, these are the chosen whites Those who are dead are justified To wear the badge, these are the chosen whites You justify those who are dead By wearing the badge, these are the chosen whites «

According to Geniuscom, the choir is focused on the group’s opposition to police brutality, with Rage Against the Machine frontman Zack de la Rocha singing that wearing a police badge is used to justify the murder

Following George Floyd’s death in Minneapolis custody in May, a Rage Against the Machine fan account on Twitter shared a tweet with a photo of former officer Derek Chauvin, who knelt down around Floyd’s neck for several minutes before his death

« Kill to name Recorded in 1992 Unfortunately, just as relevant in 2020, » the account owner wrote in the tweet

In addition to the band’s guitarist, several other Twitter users responded to the video of Trump supporters dancing to the song, which was the band’s first single from their self-titled debut album, released on November 3, 1992

Twitter user Scott Hechinger wrote: “These Trump people dance (terribly) to Rage Against the Machine’s“ Killing in the Name ”A song about resistance to police brutality, murders, supremacy white, fascism & «

These Trump people are dancing (terribly) to Rage Against the Machine – Killing in the Nameune ???? A song about resistance to police brutality, murders, white supremacy, fascism & – Some of those who work Are the same who burn crosses ???? https: // tco / 8npc0hTyVD

A similar situation occurred in September, when Trump was seen leaving Air Force One at a rally in Freeland, Michigan, while ‘Fortunate Son’ by ’60s rock group Creedence Clearwater Revival was played

The decision to play the song at a Trump campaign rally raised questions on social media, as the song’s lyrics protest the Vietnam War and class privilege in America

In a video posted to Facebook after Trump released the song, Creedence songwriter John Fogerty said, « I find it puzzling, I would say, that the president chose to use my song for his political rallies, when in fact it looks like he’s probably the lucky son «

Newsweek reached out to Morello for comment, but did not receive a response in time for publication
