Sen Josh Hawley says Democrats took the same approach to Barrett they used with Robert Bork in 1987
Sen Josh Hawley, R-Mo, compared Democrats’ partisan attacks on Supreme Court candidate Justice Amy Coney Barrett to what happened during the confirmation hearing of the former candidate Robert Bork
Bork, who was appointed to the Supreme Court by President Ronald Reagan, was rejected by the Senate following a controversial confirmation process which led to the recognition of the term « bork » in some Merriam dictionaries -Webster defines it as « to attack or defeat (a candidate or candidate for public office) unfairly through an organized campaign of harsh public criticism or defamation »

Throughout the hearing, Barrett pointed out to senators that if confirmed, she would be Judge Barrett, not Judge Scalia, and that while she shares the late judge’s judicial philosophy, she doesn’t disagree with everything he said , even when she was selling it
Barrett has been the victim of attacks from Democrats and the media since his appointment was announced, including comparisons of his religious practices to the dystopian TV series ‘The Handmaid’s Tale’, and the implications that his views on healthcare and abortion would define the country decades ago
Likewise, Bork has found himself the victim of attacks on his nomination, like a dazzling tirade on Senate floor from Sen Edward Kennedy, D-Mass
