EDINBURG, Texas – A high school soccer player attacked a referee on the pitch Thursday night after he was knocked out of play in an incident that was taped.

USA Today reports that the Edinburg High School senior defensive tackle, identified as Emmanuel Duron, was fined for a late hit and unsportsmanlike conduct during the Pharr-San-Juan Alamo game. The video shows Duron being led off the field by a coach while referee Fred Garcia announces the penalties.

As Garcia announces the ejection, Duron rushes back to the field while teammates and coaches chase him, bump into Garcia and knock him to the ground, reports The Monitor. Garcia did not return to office and was later examined for a possible concussion.

In the meantime, according to the monitor, Duron was led out of the stadium by the police. Edinburgh police declined to provide additional information after the incident, The Monitor reports. The team’s coach also said he couldn’t discuss the incident in detail.

« I cannot publish any information on this and I apologize for it, » coach JJ Lejia told The Monitor. « I hope you understand. I want this moment to be about our program and all the other kids we had in the field tonight. ”
