Actor Eddie Hassell, best known for his roles in Oscar nominated film « The Kids Are All Right » and NBC series « Surface, » was gunned down in Texas early on Sunday, police say CBS DFW reports that Hassel, 30, was shot dead in Grand Prairie, a suburb of Dallas, just before 2 a.m.
Hassell was taken to a hospital where he died Police are asking the public for help in identifying a suspect
The New York Times reported that Hassell was shot in front of his girlfriend’s apartment His representative told the newspaper that Hassell was shot in the abdomen
Variety, citing Hassell’s rep, reported that the shooting appeared to be carjacking, but the incident is still under investigation A spokesperson for the Grand Prairie Police Department released a statement to ET saying, « The mobile is still under investigation, but detectives can confirm a car was removed from the scene and later recovered. »
ET reported that shortly after Hassell’s death, his girlfriend posted a series of photos of them together

In addition to his role as a pill-sniffing teenager in « The Kids Are All Right, » the Corsicana, Texas native was also known for his recurring role in the NBC mystery drama « Surface » and for his role in Lifetime drama « Devious Maids » He also appeared in the 2013 film « Jobs » with Ashton Kutcher
Hassell left Texas for Los Angeles at the age of 11 to pursue an acting career.In a 2013 interview with Elle, Hassell said his skateboarding skills helped him land the role in « The Kids Are All Right »
