In a loving musical tribute, « Today » hosts costumes as iconic characters from some of the most popular Broadway classics for Halloween

The founding father is soon joined by Al Roker playing a King George campy from the same production who struts the stage

The showcase then takes on a darker note as Jenna Bush Hager takes the stage

Last but not least, the show visits one of the greatest Broadway titles of all time as Savannah Guthrie and Hoda Kotb « defy gravity »

Guthrie puts on Elphaba’s unmistakable green makeup and Kotb wears Glinda’s bouncy blonde curls from « Wicked »

The duo conclude the performance as all the hosts step out for a final roll call

After the show, the stars share a glimpse of how they put together the incredible performance

They reveal that they’ve had a bit of help from the cast of musicals, including original Elphaba Idina Menzel, original George Washington, Chris Jackson, and Roxie Hart from The Broadway Revival, Rita Wilson

Broadway closed in mid-March due to the COVID-19 pandemic and is expected to extend its closure until May 2021

For the tribute, however, various costume stores, show makeup artists, and the Broadway production crew reopened to help the hosts put the episode together.
