Legislature returned to Washington, D. . C this week but control the U. . S.. . The Senate is still pending. It all comes down to two runoff elections in the Senate tomorrow in Georgia. Lisa Desjardins reports on the latest pressure on Senate control.

And now let’s talk about what happened this week. Legislature returns to Washington this week and controls the U. . S.. . Senate is still pending.

For weeks, a platoon of the powerful has been flying one after the other to Georgia, including the current president and the president. But don’t be fooled. This is a ground war. .

It is a double political competition with the highest stakes. Republican Senators David Perdue and Kelly Loeffler are defending their seats against Democrats Jon Ossoff and Raphael Warnock. If both Democrats win, their party will take over the Senate.

Republicans faced a late election campaign challenge when Perdue was exposed to COVID and went into quarantine last week.

Dozens of groups have now campaigned, from the national parties of the New Georgia Project, which focuses on underrepresented groups, to the anti-abortion Susan B.. . Anthony List.

We have brought our most seasoned directors to the state of Georgia from across the country.

And you have people from California, Virginia, and New York just trying to help.

In all the years in which I have done this work, I have never seen what I experience on site.

LaTosha Brown co-founded the Black Voters Matter Fund four years ago to encourage more black voter turnout and registration. Almost a third of Georgians are black. Only Mississippi has a higher percentage. Asian-Americans and Hispanics, together about 14 percent of the Georgian population, are also key to this choice.

The groups are creative, as seen on Facebook videos, voter rides in parking lots and New Year’s collard greens, and appearing in courthouses to protest proposed cuts to voter lists.

In the early voting, many of the districts with the highest turnout have large black populations. That can be more than the Senate. Around four million Georgians registered unemployment in the pandemic. Brown says the black community has been hard hit by the economic and health crisis.

We see black voters who are literally worried about what is happening in this state and who are genuinely committed to getting out and voting.

Democrats feel good with new voters too; 72. 000 voters, including those who have just turned 18 and who have registered to vote since November. But Republicans say they conform to all of that.

The Trump Victory Campaign and the Republican National Committee have teamed up for a mammoth operation, a $ 20 million vote involving thousands of participants.

As soon as they vote, we will stop knocking on their door and calling their phones.

I’ve been trying for a long time to keep the way he behaves under wraps. And today he crossed the line.

In-race ad spend is nearly half a billion dollars, more than the Trump campaign for the entire 2020 ad budget, according to government transparency website Open Secrets.

Well I think we’re all really burned out no matter which side we vote on, with all the commercials.

And honestly, the contestants could have done each other a favor and saved a lot of money by reducing their advertising. I think people made up a long time ago how they would vote.

That brings us to the Republicans Trump card. The president last visited the state in early December.

As it was then, today’s visit is less about gaining your wits than about getting your voters out.

But some Republicans fear that the president’s electricity will add electoral confusion. He continues to rail against Georgia’s electoral system, which has led some conservatives to say they are boycotting the Senate races.

What percentage of the people who just decided to put their hands up and say, are you forgetting the whole thing? How – is that a small or a larger number?

To date, more than three million people have voted by mail or in person. That’s a state record for a runoff election.

I just want people outside of the state to know that we take it seriously. Whether you agree with us or not, we all take this very seriously. And I think the turnout so far is proof of that.
