UNC basketball forward Garrison Brooks is poised for a big 2020-21 year and has had his best season as a junior to date.
Brooks was recently named Atlantic Coast Conference Preseason Player of the Year for the upcoming season and is now receiving additional national awards. On Tuesday, ahead of Stanford’s third UNC game of the season, Brooks was put on a large watch list.
The Wooden Award named their top 50 preseason list, and that’s exactly where Brooks said:
The senior striker is the only player in North Carolina to be included on the list that recognizes the best player in college basketball each season. It’s a stacked list of talented players and is led by Luka Garza of Iowa.
Brooks has had a junior season where he averaged 16 years old. 8 points, 8. 5 rebounds and 2 assists when shooting 53 percent off the field. This year Brooks averaged 10 points, 9 rebounds and 1 assist per game in two games. However, he only shoots 34 percent off the field.
It’s no secret that Brooks will be one of the biggest keys to tar heels success this season if they want to improve their record from 14 to 19 a year ago. The Tar Heels will also be very deep in the post with four guys who can start on this team, including two newbies.
Players who are not on the preseason watchlist can still win the award as the list will be cut during the year.
