The most exciting part of the NBA season is in full swing. No, it’s not Opening Night, the All-Star Game, or the NBA Finals.
Players are trading, and while teams can’t formally negotiate with free agents until Friday (and can’t sign until Sunday), rumors and reports are already circulating.. To add to the fun, the 2020 NBA draft will take place on Wednesday.
Over the next week, there will be more rumors and reports, and even some actual actions that come from it.
When the Warriors implemented a marker and traded for D’Angelo Russell, part of the reason they did so was clearly to keep a maximum contract in the books so that they had a path to getting a star, a potentially indignant star forcing the trade.
They swapped him for Wiggins, and while the team seemed to be largely in favor of Wiggins over Russell, the thinking remained the same.. Perhaps Wiggins’ greatest value is that warriors can match salaries if a superstar player arrives in the trading market.
So, over the next few days, we’ll see a lot of tweets and articles – from actual rumors to folks coming up with their own ideas – and putting wiggins into deals, usually paired with Warriors No.. 2 Pick in draft and / or pick a first round of Minnesota Timberwolves in 2021.
I have already seen rumors linking Wiggins with James Harden and Lamarcus Aldridge, two operations that would be very shocking if they happened.. We’ll see some creative plans to get Ben Simmons in the Warriors’ shirt, or maybe even Joel Embiid. Jrue vacation? Of course, why not.
The Warriors clearly have some confidence in Wiggins, but they’ll also use it as a trading chip without thinking twice if the right player is available.. It’s just a matter of whether the right player with the right contract can be used.
So what do you think? Will Wiggins still be wearing the Warriors’ shirt this time next week?
