Florida thought there was a groundbreaking game in the SEC championship game against Alabama on Saturday night . . . until Bama’s John Metchie had one of those hits of the year and immediately turned the game upside down.
The game was played with a tie of seven in the first quarter. Alabama was driving when quarterback Mac Jones threw a pass over the middle that was ripped from the receiver’s hands by the Florida DB Trey Dean III.
It was an unbelievable piece by Dean, which unfortunately could not be celebrated for him. Because after the election, Dean ran back to the field … before he was absolutely leveled by John Metchie, a recipient from Alabama.
The hit was intense (and clean) and the ball bounced off, which was salvaged by Alabama’s DeVonta Smith. The Crimson Tide scored on the next game.
The hit was huge, but the timing couldn’t have been better for Alabama. What looked like bad turnover in a tie turned into a touchdown for Alabama just one game later.
The Carolina Panthers are out and about this week as they face Green Bay Packers Football from Lambeau Field on Saturday night. (…)
