For Tuesday’s game, the Jayhawks rolled out with five starters: Marcus Garrett (senior), Agbaji (junior), Jalen Wilson (Redshirt newcomer), Braun (sophomore) and David McCormack (junior). Five-star freshman Bryce Thompson had previously posted a start instead of Wilson against Saint Joseph’s, but he started the game on Tuesday on the bench.

Before the game, there were some rumors that Garrett might be out due to illness. Phog. net first reported that he was a full participant in warm-up exercises. Garrett earned a start against the Wildcats, playing for more than 30 minutes.

The game started slowly, with no team scoring for the first two minutes and 20 seconds. Agbaji was first on the board as he recorded a setback from a missed Braun 3 to give the Jayhawks a 2-0 lead. Agbaji later hit a 3 of his own before the U-16 media timeout as he made all five of the Jayhawks’ points during that time

However, the Jayhawks shot 2 to 10 in the first four and a half minutes of the game with three turnovers, so Kentucky was ahead with a pair during the media stop. Kentucky 7, Kansas 5 (15:33)

However, the Jayhawks responded with their five guard attack, with Dajuan Harris giving the team an extra ball handler. Harris recorded two steals and the Jayhawks actually scored four points in a row to force a Kentucky break. Self reverted to the four guard approach, and the Wildcats extended their lead to 12 by the next media stop. Kentucky 21, Kansas 9 (7:45)

The Jayhawks worked the ball further into McCormack as the big man had up to four points (1: 4 FG), two rebounds and two turnovers at 5:55 in the half. At this point, KU followed at 11. After McCormack made two free throws, Self reverted to his five-guard look for the rest of the verse. Kentucky 32, Kansas 22 (3:43)

The Jayhawks relied on five guards for the rest of the period, reducing Kentucky’s lead by half to six. One memorable game came when Braun dived and was deemed a technical foul for trash talking by a Kentucky player. Self disagreed with the call and yelled at the officer that he was « so weak ». «

The Jayhawks took a point off the lead in Kentucky for the next four minutes and switched. Wilson scored two points (with three rebounds) and McCormack added two more points on the free throw line. However, the KU-Bank received a technical foul for arguing an early foul call. Kentucky 38, Kansas 33 (3:45 pm)

Kentucky started building a lead when the Wildcats hit their second 3 of the game to improve 4. However, Wilson returned to the game and responded with a 3 of his own. He later hit another 3 to tie the game at 51. Then he hit inside to tie again at 53. Kansas 53, Kentucky 53 (3:25)

Agbaji scored five points – two of them after a Harris theft – to give the Jayhawks a five point lead.
