A bushfire lit Wednesday afternoon in a canyon in Santee amid mild, gusty winds, and the flames moved close enough to homes for the San Diego County’s Sheriff’s Department to issue an evacuation order for residents in exhibit two streets.
The « Chaparral Fire » started around 1:45 pm. m. in vegetation near houses along the 10400 block of Chaparral Drive. The area is on Cuyamaca Street and west of Woodglen Vista Park.
According to the SDSO, there is an evacuation notice for residents along Princess Joann and Dakota Ranch streets. The MPs went door to door and notified residents.
A temporary evacuation center has been set up at Santana High School at 9915 Magnolia Avenue, the SDSO said.

Cal Fire San Diego said it was assisting the Santee Fire Department crews in starting the firefight.
SkyRanger 7 caught smoke rising from walls of flames as they ripped through slopes through dry brushes. NBC 7 photojournalists captured air tankers and helicopters that were throwing pink retardant and water on the flames not far from their homes.

Ashley Matthews of NBC 7 said on the First Alert Forecast Wednesday that gusty winds are expected in mild temperatures in the foothills and mountains of San Diego for the next few days, increasing the risk of fire.
The national weather service in San Diego said the temperature in Santee was 72 degrees at 2 p.m.. m. Wednesday with a relative humidity of 12%.
