Clark, the nation’s leading scorer on Tuesday, only made 3 shots out of 15. But she put together her first triple-double – the tenth in program history – in Iowa’s 92-65 non-conference women’s basketball win against western Illinois at the Carver-Hawkeye Arena.

« I knew I was close, but I didn’t know how close I was, » said Clark, who wrapped up the feat (13 points, 13 rebounds, 10 assists) with a court trial to Logan Cook that had 5:10 left.

« The bank may not have known (how close Clark was), but the coaches knew, » said Iowa coach Lisa Bluder. “We wanted her to get it. I was about to tell her, but I didn’t. She has high goals, high expectations like champions do. ”

Iowa’s last triple-double came from Samantha Logic in 2015 in a regional semi-final of the NCAA tournament against Baylor. Logic had six in their career, Kachine Alexander two, Cara Consuegra one.

“It was frustrating because it’s recordings that I take every day, recordings that I should be taking. ”

Monika Czinano led with 19 points. Megan Meyer (13 points), Logan Cook (12) and Sharon Goodman (12) all came off the bench for career highs.

« It was great fun, » said Cook, a junior from Iowa City West. “We have been preparing for it all week. I felt like we played well together. ”

« I’m very happy for Logan, » said Bluder. « She’s a junior, she worked so hard and stayed so positive. ”

« I think that shows the strength of our team, » said the freshman from Lime Springs. “We have people who come from the bank and can score. ”

West Illinois (1-7) was related to the Hawkeyes for most of the first half. The Leathernecks’ final lead was 16-13 before Iowa scored the last five points of the first quarter and led the rest of the way.

It was 21-20 before Iowa finished half-time with a 20-9 run, and the Hawkeyes were leading 41-29 at break, despite shooting just 37 percent.

Grace Gilmore led Western Illinois with 15 points. Mallory McDermott, former Cedar Rapids Prairie standout player, played 14 minutes and scored five points for the Leathernecks.

The Hawkeyes will continue the Big Ten game at 2pm. m. Dec. . 31 at home against Rutgers.
