Wes Iwundu is set to sign a deal with the Dallas Mavericks, according to Athletic’s Shams Charania.

To strangers (including myself before I write this), Iwundu is a 25-year-old striker who has played with the Orlando Magic for the past three seasons. It’s 6’6 « and about 200 pounds and fits the Dallas theme this off-season as it’s gaining length.

In his three seasons with Orlando he has an average of 4. 8 points, 2. 5 rebounds and one assist per game. He’s a pretty poor shooter, but since Orlando doesn’t believe in spacing, this may not be a fair judge.

Per the site’s friend, Matt Moore of the Action Network, he’s a very good defender:

The Mavericks have been trying to hone their defensive skills throughout the off-season and Iwundu fits the profile.

What is more interesting is what kind of business it is. Dallas has an almost full roster to this day, so this signing raises questions about whether anyone else could be moved or whether this is just an invitation to training camp, with a recording of the roster. Brad Townsend of the Dallas Morning News thinks it’s a guaranteed deal and asks the same question about the number of roster slots.

I was told that Iwundu’s contract was guaranteed, and this source also confirmed my previous report that J. . J. . Barea will be back, but this source tells me the Mavs still have a roster seat. I knew Bey and Hinton were going two ways, but of course I’ll have to repeat my math.
