World News – USA – Dance pioneer Adolfo ‘Shabba-Doo’ Quinones dead at 65: Report – TheGrio

. . Quinonoes, the dancer, actor, and choreographer whose movements as part of The Original Lockers inspired a generation and fueled a culture, was 65 years old.

By early Wednesday, dance historians and all things hip-hop aficionados were saddened by reports that Adolfo Quinones, better known as Shabba-Doo, had died.

The dancer-actor-choreographer – a founding member of The Original Lockers, whose pioneering movements as part of the street dance dynamos inspired a generation and fueled a culture – was 65 years old. No cause of death or other information was disclosed as early as Wednesday.

Just the day before, Quinones, known for his acrobatic poplocking skills and roles in the 1984 films Breakin ‘and its 1984 sequel Breakin 2: Electric Boogaloo, had posted on Instagram about illness. He was in bed but was thrilled that his test for coronavirus was negative.

« Good news! I’m better, » wrote the Chicago-born and raised Quinones. « I’m just a little sluggish from my cold, but the good news is that I’m Covid 19 negative! Woo hoo !!! »

Twitter, at 8 a.m.. m. PST was rocked by news of the Quinones death delivered via Lockers legend and longtime Quinones friend Toni Basil.

« It is with the utmost sadness that the Lockers family announce the unexpected death of our beloved Adolfo Shabba-doo Quinones, » she announced.

After Quinones founded The Lockers in 1971 with his dance innovators Don « Campbellock » Campbell and Basil, he brought his unique dance skills to the big and small screen and performance stages in the decades that followed. He directed tour dancers and choreographed for artists such as Luther Vandross, Madonna, Lionel Richie and Three Six Mafia.
