LOS ANGELES (CBSLA) – An increased risk of fire is expected if the Santa Ana winds return to Southland on Wednesday and last through Thursday.
A severe forest fire threat warning begins at 8 a.m.. m. Wednesday through Thursday noon for the Angeles National Forest, the coastal region extends into downtown Los Angeles and the Santa Clarita, San Fernando and San Gabriel valleys, the Santa Monica Mountains and the Los Angeles County Mountains.
« The gusty winds in Santa Ana are expected to increase rapidly early Wednesday morning in Los Angeles and Ventura counties and then peak on Wednesday afternoon through Wednesday evening, when gusts of 40 to 60 miles per hour are expected in more favorable areas will. « to the National Weather Service. “It is expected that the humidity in downslope areas will drop to around 15 percent by Wednesday morning, with drying falling to 3 to 10 percent on Wednesday afternoon by Thursday morning. ”
The Santa Ana winds combined with low humidity create dangerous fire conditions. Forecasters said there is a possibility of rapid fire spread if a fire breaks out along with extreme fire behavior.

Much of Orange County will also be warned under a red flag in the same hours. Gusts of wind are expected to reach speeds of up to 60 miles per hour in the Santa Ana Mountain Canyons.
If high winds are forecast, Edison customers in Southern California may be able to temporarily turn off power in the affected areas to prevent live electrical lines from being damaged by gusts of wind and possible forest fires.
Customers can check the utility’s website to see if they are facing a potential public safety shutdown.
