A former Republican Senate candidate shared how she was « handcuffed, gagged, tortured » by a group in a Texas hotel on Christmas Eve.
Three people have been charged with the attack on Vanessa Tijerina, who ran for election to the Texas State Senate in November and previously ran for Congress.
Tijerina, 42, said she was lured into an inn in Raymondville after receiving a phone call from someone saying she wanted to speak personally about her personal safety.
She told local news channel KVEO that a woman who wore a « black bra » at the Texas Inn on Frontage Road had told her she had « something very important about her safety » to say.
Instead, Tijerina said she was attacked by three people who left her with puffy eyes, bruises on her face, damaged teeth and boot marks on her face.
In a Facebook broadcast posted hours after the attack, she showed bruising and puffiness on her face and said, « Somebody wanted this to be done to my face. «
« I was called to a place . . . They made it look like they had something really, really important to tell and they couldn’t tell me on the phone, so I had to drive to them.
« I never struggled because I knew that if I struggled it would get worse and I probably wouldn’t survive. « . . and I had to survive for my daughters. «
Tijerina claims another person gave orders for the attack over the phone, but investigators haven’t confirmed this.
On another Facebook Live shortly after Tuesday’s arrests, the former GOP candidate thanked police for their efforts, saying her injuries were healed and she was confident another arrest would follow.
« The only person absolutely missing here is the person who gave the order to torture. This person has not yet been found or identified. «
Tijerina ran for election to the Texas State Senate last month to represent District 27. She lost the vote after 72. 768 (35). 2 percent of the total) compared to Democrat Eddie Lucio, who was 134. Won 035 votes (64). 8 percent) according to Ballotpedia.
Their defeat came a month after the Texas Republican Party announced it would no longer actively support Tijerina’s campaign, citing « multiple arrests and shocking evidence of driving under the influence ». «
Police said they found « crack pipes » in Tijerina’s car in June when she was charged with driving while drunk with children.
« Your behavior does not reflect the values of the Texas GOP, and we do not want to promote anyone with your character, » the party said in a statement.
In 2016 Tijerina ran as a candidate for the Greens and was aiming for an election to the U.. S.. . House to represent the 15th. Texas Congressional District.
That same year, she was arrested for a grocery stamp fraud in which court records show Congress hopefully received thousands of dollars after falsely claiming to be part of a single parent household.
